Reading Hospital - Tower Health Announces Ron Nutting, MD as Chief Medical Officer
West Reading, Pa., August 5, 2020 - Effective July 19, Ron Nutting, MD has been appointed as the Chief Medical Officer for Reading Hospital - Tower Health. In this role Dr. Nutting will provide senior executive leadership to the Hospital's medical staff, while fostering quality and innovation in medical services provided to the community.
Dr. Nutting started his career as a Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at Reading Hospital in June 1992, following distinguished military service including tours of duty in Desert Storm. Dr. Nutting transitioned from clinical care into medical staff administration in March 2013 where he served as Director of Medical Staff Offices until 2019, when he assumed the role of Vice President of Medical Staff Services Offices for the Tower Health System. He began serving as the interim Chief Medical Officer at Reading Hospital in March 2020.
During his tenure as Director of Medical Staff Services, Dr. Nutting led several initiatives including adoption of new Medical Staff bylaws, policies, and rules at Reading Hospital - then the adoption across all of Tower Health with the acquisition of the new hospitals. Additionally, he and his staff implemented electronic processes for medical staff application, privileging, credentialing, and peer review. This moved Tower Health into state-of-the-art governance and operations for medical staffs across the country. He led the development and implementation of the Tower System Central Verification Office that allows a single and uniform application process across all Tower Health facilities leading to increased efficiency for the physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and staff. Dr. Nutting is formally trained in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, leading many clinical and operational improvement initiatives.
