Reading Hospital Receives Donations of Handmade Masks
West Reading, Pa., August 6, 2020 - To aid in the fight against COVID-19, community member Terri Adams has been graciously donating handmade masks to Reading Hospital, recently donating her 2,000th handmade mask at the end of July. As a nurse for 46 years, Terri knows the importance of following safety protocols to keep patients and healthcare workers safe. Each mask takes Terri approximately 20 minutes to make and she supplies all the fabric and materials herself.
"Reading Hospital is always grateful for donations made by our talented and generous community members," says Katherine Thornton, President, Reading Hospital Foundation, "Donations that aim to protect our employees, particularly during these uncertain times, are especially appreciated."
Terri has experienced the effects of the virus after losing a close friend who became ill with COVID-19, and she hopes that donating the masks will help encourage others to wear them to protect not only their colleagues and patients, but their friends and family members as well.
"I feel honored to be able to provide these masks for Reading Hospital. My goal is to encourage mask use while we all navigate through these challenging times together," says Terri, "It's a simple act that can help us protect ourselves and the ones we love."
William M. Jennings, President and CEO, Reading Hospital added, "We continue to be humbled by the community's response to this pandemic and the support they have shown the Hospital through donations. Masks are one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19 and we thank Terri for her kind donation as we work to resume more regular operations at Reading Hospital, all while keeping our patients' and employees' health and safety at top of mind."
During this time of community need, many have come forward to ask how they can help. Visit towerhealth.org/covid19/donate/ for more information.
