Reading Hospital Foundation Dedicates Pediatric Emergency Department in Honor of Radwanski Family

Reading Hospital recently received a generous donation to the Reading Hospital Foundation's Pediatric Emergency Department campaign from James and Deborah Radwanski of Perrotto Builders, Ltd. In commemoration of their gift, Reading Hospital Foundation has dedicated the new space to the couple, naming it the "James & Deborah Radwanski Pediatric Emergency Department."

Mr. and Mrs. Radwanski share a deep commitment to the Greater Reading and Berks County community and Reading Hospital is pleased to work alongside them to expand pediatric services in our region. With their help, Reading Hospital will ensure that the children of our community have access to the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Reading Hospital Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the mission of Reading Hospital to benefit the health and well-being of our community. Each gift is deeply appreciated and helps physicians, nurses, and staff members utilize the most advanced technology and treatment methods.

"Our new Pediatric Emergency Department (ED) will play a major role in our community," says Kate Thornton, President, Reading Hospital Foundation, "With the completion of the Pediatric ED at Reading Hospital, families will have direct access to exceptional pediatric care in a personalized and comforting setting. We are so grateful for donors, like the Radwanski's, who want to make a difference for the children in our community every day."

Of the thousands of patients who visit the Reading Hospital Emergency Department each year, nearly 30,000 of them are children. With so many children entering its doors, the hospital recognized an opportunity to better serve the community by expanding its pediatric emergency services.

Reading Hospital opened the James & Deborah Radwanski Pediatric Emergency Department on Tuesday, February 5, to provide a kid-centered approach to emergency care, close to home, when they need it the most.

This 16-bed, dedicated space for pediatric emergency patients has its own specialized "triage" area and a separate, family-friendly waiting room. It also offers highly experienced pediatric physicians, specialists, nurses, and physician assistants; child-specific medical equipment, as well as specialized equipment for the care of children with autism or other special needs; a carefully designed "play area" for children awaiting treatment; private family consultation room; and specialized programs, such as music therapy, to ease fear and improve outlook.

"The care of children has always been near and dear to Jim and Deb's hearts," says William Jennings, President and CEO of Reading Hospital, "Being able to combine that passion with their deep commitment to the Greater Reading and Berks County community made this gift very special to them. We are so grateful for their generosity."
