Karen Hoerst, MD, Named Medical Director of Reading Health's Primary Stroke Center

Reading Health has appointed Karen Hoerst, MD, Vascular Neurologist, as Medical Director of Reading Health's nationally recognized stroke care program. The Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center has received numerous awards for excellence and has earned National Quality Approval from The Joint Commission.

In her new role, Dr. Hoerst directs and oversees a multidisciplinary team that provides resuscitation, stabilization, assessment and treatment of stroke patients. She provides leadership for every aspect of stroke care, including quality of care, continuous improvement, research and maintaining a multidisciplinary approach throughout the health system.

Patients who are treated within three hours of having a stroke can greatly reduce the risk of permanent damage. Reading Health's Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center is fully equipped and staffed to provide state-of-the-art rapid evaluation and treatment of stroke. The center's Rapid Response Brain Attack team is ranked in the top 5 percent nationally for outcomes. The health system offers 24/7 neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology and advanced treatments that save lives and improve a patient's chance of full recovery.

Dr. Hoerst joined Reading Health Physician Network Neurology in July 2014, is certified in Neurology and has a sub-certification in Vascular Neurology. She graduated from Jefferson Medical College and completed a residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She also completed a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
