Clinical Pastoral Education Program
The Clinical Pastoral Education Program at Reading Hospital offers program formats tailored to the needs of theological degree candidates, clergy, and lay ministers seeking continuing education or wishing to train for careers in chaplaincy.
Our curriculum and supervised clinical pastoral experiences focus on the development and refinement of pastoral care and counseling skills that are theoretically informed and pastorally effective.
EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, & PHRN Programs
Our EMS program offers certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Paramedic and Prehospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) training. In our program, you will learn to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies and assist the sick and injured.
Medical Imaging Program
We offer students exceptional classroom and clinical experiences to prepare for an exciting career in Medical Imaging – in just 27 months. For more than 71 years, our program has educated women and men who have continued to serve in a wide variety of radiologic imaging, both here at Reading Hospital and in locations across the nation.
Through a dual enrollment arrangement with Alvernia University, students enrolled in our hospital-based Medical Imaging Program can simultaneously enroll in Alvernia University's Associate of Science in Medical Imaging degree program.
Students who successfully complete all aspects of the curriculum are eligible to graduate with both a certificate of completion in Medical Imaging from the School of Health Sciences and an Associate of Science in Medical Imaging from Alvernia University.
Medical Laboratory Science
Since 1934, our program has prepared laboratory professionals to work in various laboratory settings including hospital labs, reference labs, physician office labs, and pharmaceutical labs.
As a Medical Laboratory Science professional, you will play a crucial role in the detections, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Medical laboratory science professionals generate accurate laboratory data that is needed to aid in detecting cancer, heart attacks, diabetes, and leukemia, as well as the identification of bacteria and viruses that cause infections.

Widely recognized for excellence in both the classroom and clinical settings, our program has been preparing women and men since 1889 to serve in a variety of nursing fields both here and around the world.
Our affiliation with Alvernia University enables Nursing Program graduates to qualify for the RN to BSN Completion Program. Students enrolled in the Nursing Program will earn college credit for general education courses in physical sciences, biological sciences, behavioral sciences, and English composition taught at the School of Health Sciences by University faculty.
Surgical Technology Program
For more than 47 years, Surgical Technology Program has prepared qualified professionals for a technical role on the surgical team.
Combining instructional lectures and clinical experience, the 20-month program prepares students for the national certification examination and to assume entry-level positions as surgical technologists.
The liberal arts courses are taught by Alvernia University faculty. These courses provide students with a well-rounded background as well as meet the requirements for the Associate of Science degree from Alvernia University.
The School of Health Sciences has an affiliation with Alvernia University, giving students the ability to earn college credits and bringing them closer to earning a college degree during their studies.
