Reading Hospital Presents 150th Anniversary Commemorative Painting
Reading Hospital hosted the inaugural event of the 150th anniversary celebration on January 24, 2018 - a reception where an original oil painting, commissioned for the anniversary, was unveiled. The special event was held at the Reading Public Museum, 500 Museum Road, Reading.
Guests included local dignitaries and political leaders, business leaders, local college presidents, and Reading Hospital and Reading Hospital Foundation leaders and supporters.
Clint Matthews, President and CEO of Reading Hospital and Tower Health, and Brent J. Wagner, MD, Chairman, Tower Health Board of Directors, made remarks at the event.
The painting, an aerial view of the Reading Hospital campus, commemorates the hospital's history and growth. It was created by local artist Michele Byrne.
About the Artist
Michele Byrne, the painter of Reading Hospital’s commemorative oil painting received a BFA from Kutztown University and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She is a full-time, professional artist who works primarily in oil paint. The theme for most of her paintings is THE ART OF CONVERSATION. She paints café scenes, street scenes, and social situations where people gather to converse. Most of her work is done plein air (on location).
In the last two years, Michele has painted in Cuba, Manhattan, Wyoming, California, Arizona, and Key West, Florida. Widely recognized for her figurative plein air work, she has won numerous awards, most recently the Award of Excellence in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, and second place in PleinAir Magazine’s bi-monthly Salon.
In 2017, Liliedahl Productions released an instructional video titled Painting Impressionistic Figures with Michele Byrne.
Michele is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, Salmagundi Club (NYC), California Art Club, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air.
