Special Note: As flu season begins, the Reading Hospital requires that all individuals who wish to participate in a job shadowing experience between the months of November – March provide proof of having their flu vaccine. Please take this into consideration when applying and selecting your availability to participate.
Our job shadowing program provides current or prospective healthcare students a chance to observe healthcare professionals in a workplace setting. We are happy to consider high school students at least 16 years of age, and college students majoring in a healthcare-related field of study.
You will have the opportunity to shadow a healthcare professional for a maximum of four hours, with the ability to shadow twice per year.
The number of students accepted at any time, in any given department, will depend on organizational capacity and priorities.
Our goal is to provide you with the opportunity to learn more about healthcare career options, as well as with the education and skills required for different occupations in the healthcare field.
- Observe daily routines of healthcare providers.
- Begin to identify career interests in healthcare.
- Gain awareness of the academic, technical and personal skills required in healthcare professions.
- Gain an understanding of the work environment that can be unique to a particular department/profession.
- Develop an understanding of the critical connections between school, work and goal attainment.
If you would like to participate in a shadowing experience, please review and complete all three of the below forms, and send them to Brandon Monk, Community Health Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or:
